Mare Racing League


                                            I made this on my lunch....

                                            Mare racing league:


                                            > Today was the day!

                                            > The Mare Racing League was coming to Ponyville

                                            > I put my ticket in months ago and every time I pass the barrels near city hall I get butterflies in my stomach

                                            > And after two months of waiting it's finally here!

                                            > I pushed my way through the crowd to the front of the stage

                                            > Atop the stage sat all twenty four members of the famous Pegasus Racing League and their filly companion racer.


                                            > Each member was from a different part of Equestria and every year they toured Equestria competing in races

                                            > Spitfire and her filly companion Sunbeam Surprise represented Cloudsdale

                                            > Kerfuffle and Barely Bale represented Hope Hollow

                                            > Bat Bich and Lil B represented Battopia

                                            > They are the back of the stage while horns sang and streamers fell from the sky because today was a very special day

                                            > It wasn't just a race day

                                            > They were all here to judge for one reason

                                            > To introduce Ponyville into the Equestria racing league.


                                            > Everypony who wanted to be part of the racing league put their name in one of the barrels

                                            > Pink slip for fillies and blue for mares

                                            > Spitfire, the league captain was to pick a name from each barrel and sort ponies into pairs

                                            > I was so excited I could barely contain myself!


                                            > Rainbow Dash and I are going to get paired for sure and we'll crush the competition!

                                            > The crowd of Pegasi hushed to a murmur as the horns died and Spitfire took to the centre of the stage between the barrels.

                                            > She sunk her hoof into the barrel on her left  and pulled out a pink ticket then did the same to the one on her right and pulled out a blue ticket

                                            > "Okay ponies! The first pairing is Rumble and Cloudkicker."


                                            > The crowd cheered

                                            > I watched Rumble sprint towards Cloudkicker and the two hugged

                                            > They're going to be a hard team to beat, but when Dash and I get paired, no pony will stand a chance!

                                            > The crowd hushed and Spitfire continued calling names

                                            > After about fifteen minutes most ponies were paired off, except for me, Rainbow and a strange green filly I had never seen before.


                                            > They had a black mane and a question mark cutie mark.

                                            > How strange.

                                            > Spitfire pulled a blue ticket from the barrel and read it aloud

                                            > "Rainbow Dash will be paired with…."

                                            > Oh my gosh! I couldn't take the suspense any longer!

                                            > She reached deep into the barrel and pulled out a pink ticket.

                                            > "Anon Filly!"


                                            > It took me a second to comprehend what just happened

                                            > But when I did, my heart sank

                                            > Anon Filly!?

                                            > Who the heck is Anon Filly

                                            > I turned to Dash, she shot me an apologetic look

                                            > It wasn't supposed to go this way!


                                            > Dash approached the filly looking just as confused at her as I did

                                            > If Dash is with her. Who's my partner?

                                            > "Last tickets!" Spitfire shouted like a bootcamp instructor

                                            > She reached deep into the barrels and grabbed the final tickets

                                            > "Scootaloo and Derpy Hooves!"

                                            > Derpy Hooves!?

                                            > No!

                                            > Anypony but her!


                                            > I ran into the stage and fell to my knees

                                            "Please Spitfire! I can't be paired with her! She can barely fly!"

                                            > She shot me an annoyed expression

                                            > "Scootaloo, the rules are simple, if you're a Pegasus, you can enter. That's the only requirement. You get who you get."


                                            > She returned to the company of her fellow league members and they all exited the stage

                                            > So…If I'm partnered with Derpy, where was she?

                                            > As if on cue I saw across the hill Trotting towards me

                                            > Great…

                                            > She twisted her head around


                                            > "Ummm…Hello? Is anypony around?"

                                            > For the love of Celestia

                                            > "Am I in the wrong place?"

                                            > She squinted

                                            > "Over here Derpy." I sighed

                                            > She smiled and trotted towards me

                                            > "Scootaloo! How are you doing!?" She cheered

                                            > "We're partners, how do you think I feel?"


                                            > She smiled and hugged me tight

                                            > "We're partners?! Oh my gosh, how exciting!"


                                            > I pushed her away

                                            "Why were you so late?"

                                            > "Oh! I'm always picked last for this sort of thing so I figured I had time." She chuckled

                                            > What the heck was that supposed to mean?

                                            > This was a draw, not high school buckball.

                                            "Okay, whatever, it's fine. But you better not be late for practice." I warned

                                            > "Oh, of course Scootaloo. This is going to be my top priority."

                                            "Good. Now we have to start practicing, how good are you at flying?"

                                            > "Well, I'm not the greatest on account of my eyes."

                                            > "Yeah, you're practically blind."

                                            > "I can still see! I just gotta squint."

                                            > She narrowed her eyes

                                            > "There you are!" She giggled


                                            "Derpy, why did you join the race if you can't see?"

                                            > "I thought it would be fun! And I've always wanted a filly to talk with, ponies in town always say I'm great with ponies your age but I've never had a filly of my own."


                                            > "But Derpy. You can't see!"

                                            > "Well you can't fly. Why did you join?"

                                            > There may not have been a hint of malice in her voice but I was still offended

                                            "I've been practicing!"

                                            > "Oh, well that's good." She smiled

                                            > I looked over at Rainbow who was with Anon Filly


                                            > "Come on! We gotta practice if we wanna win this thing!"

                                            > Anon Filly looked annoyed

                                            > "I don't wanna, I'm only here because Twilight told me to get outta the treehouse. How about you do all the flying, stunts and physical stuff and I'll watch."

                                            > Rainbow looked like she was about to snap

                                            > "You have wings little filly. you should try using them once a while."

                                            "I'm a grown ass man Rainbow."


                                            > "You're a what? I don't even know what that means!"

                                            > "Of course you don't." Anon sighed

                                            > Rainbow grabbed Anon by the wing and pulled him down the trail towards the gorge

                                            > "You're gonna learn to fly and we're gonna win this thing. You're not going to embarrass me in front of Spitfire."


                                            > I looked over at Derpy who was squinting at the two

                                            > "Who's Anon?"

                                            "I don't know Derpy, but if they learn to fly before me and beat us I'm gonna be so angry."
